Very dog friendly suburbs of Fitzroy & Collingwood sit right next to each other in the northeast of the Melbourne CBD. While Collingwood boasts of being one of the oldest suburbs in Melbourne and housing the likes of Smith Street and Hoddle Street, Fitzroy is its hipster cousin.  World-famous Brunswick Street runs through Fitzroy with its colourful walls and cafes, all of which you and your dog can visit as both suburbs are not short of dog-friendly parks, walks, pubs and cafes.

1. Atherton Reserve

Napier Street, Fitzroy

In the heart of Fitzroy, this reserve is a haven for your pet as it is a dog-friendly sanctuary. Dogs can be off-leash in the unfenced areas when there are no sporting events. And even if there is a cricket or footy match you’d like to watch, they have to be on leash within ten metres of the sporting event.

2. Smith Reserve

Cecil Street, Fitzroy

Located next to the local swimming pool, this little gem is aesthetically pleasing as paths are alined with monster trees towering over you. A great walk to take your pup – especially in Autumn. 

3. Edinburgh Gardens

Fitzroy North

This mammoth park sits in between Brunswick Street and St George’s Road. It is famous for its spacious gardens, local fauna, and its history. With 24 hectares to explore, you and your pooch will be out of breath in no time.

A walk down famous Brunswick Street will surely be on the cards if you’re on a walk with your pup. Whether you are looking for a good book to read, a new top or a coffee, most places are dog-friendly and will usually have a sign at the shopfront to let you know.

5. Monty’s Bar

209 St George Road, Fitzroy North

This funky bar is a dog’s haven as you can bring them inside as you enjoy a pizza and beer. There are also a couple of turntables in the venue and some records to play. There will most likely be more dogs than humans here. 

6. The Fox

351 Wellington Steet, Collingwood

A traditional pub grub venue allows you to have a visit with your dog on the terrace and enjoy a variety of craft beers.

7. The Rainbow Hotel

27 David Street, Fitzroy

This dog-friendly pub boasts a beautiful menu and a dĂ©cor to match. This pub is a pub’s pub and is a beer drinker’s heaven. They have over 100 brews on offer. So, give them a visit and see if you can slowly taste them all with every visit. Dogs welcome in the partly covered beer garden.

This local favourite has one of the best parma’s in town. Your dog can accompany you in their outdoor area while you enjoy the suburbs best. But don’t just take my word for it! Give it a try!

9. Rochester Hotel

202 Johnson Street, Fitzroy

Dogs are welcome everywhere in this super dog friendly neighbourhood pub in the heart of Fitzroy! Good times with weekend DJs, happy hour, food specials, trivia and comedy. Plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces so roll in with your pooch and pick your favourite session spot.

10. Black Cat

252 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

Since opening its doors over 30 years ago, Black Cat has established itself as a Fitzroy institution. Serving up a fresh brunch menu and local coffee by day, Black Cat offers a great selection of craft beers, handpicked spirits and Melbourne’s best DJ’s at night. Their spacious beer garden is dog friendly and has cover and water.

11. Prince Patrick Hotel

252 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

The Prince Patrick has been a grand old Collingwood pub since in 1887. Located on the north-east corner of Victoria Parade and the corner of Rokeby St they are only 1.5k from Melbourne’s sporting precinct. Dogs are allowed to join you everywhere in this Collingwood icon!

A popular meeting place for locals and visitors from all walks of life, Alimentari boasts fresh Mediterranean food for sit down and take-away. Dogs are welcome at the seating area in front of the venue, however not allowed indoors or at the courtyard areas.

193 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy

Unpretentious and straightforward, Arcadia boasts a great menu that will have you coming back. In addition, their outdoor area is spacious and have dog bowls littered all around for your pup to quench their thirst.
